Aaron Gordon narrowly loses to Timberwolves star in 2016 Dunk Contest
Nobody flew higher than Minnesota Timberwolves, Zach LaVine in the Dunk Contest on Saturday, February Aaron Gordon soared over h13 in Toronoto.
The 20-year-old beat Orlando Magic star Aaron Gordon to win the dunk triller in fascinating fashion; this is second dunk contest win.
He outlasted Gordon in a duel that needed two overtimes and ended only when there was literally no ball to use.
He and Gordon traded perfect scores of 50 for the previous few rounds after advancing to the final, but the Orlando Magic rookie mustered only a 47 in his last attempt.
Gordon however pulled off the most memorable dunks of the night with some help from the Magic's mascot.
On Stuff's first assist, Gordon took the ball with one hand from the mascot, who was spinning around on a hoverboard, and did a 360-degree dunk.
He got another assist from Stuff on the next one, leaping high to take the ball, putting it under his legs ā nearly in a sitting position in midair ā and slamming it down with his left hand.
While Gordon's best dunks probably outpaced LaVine's best, LaVine delivered the stronger overall performance from start to finish.
He earned 299 out of a possible 300 points on his six dunks.
To beat Gordon, LaVine relied on his ability to dunk from the free throw line -- or close enough to round up -- in a variety of different fashions. Included were a dunk off a lob from teammate Andre Miller, a windmill from the free throw line and finally the between-the-legs dunk from that distance (never before seen in an NBA dunk contest) that earned him the victory.
LaVine's other dunks were impressive in their own right. He went behind his back to fit the 'Back to Back' theme, cuffed a dunk off a self-lob while completing a 180 and windmilled into a reverse off his own bounce.
