Maradona and Veron were on Wednesday, October 12 playing in a charity game at the Stadio Olimpico which was organised by Pope Francis.

The leader of Vatican put together the game to help raise funds for victims of the earthquake that hit central Italy on August 24.

Some of the most popular names in football were present in the game between a La Liga XI against the Rest of the World XI.

Ronaldinho, Francesco Totti, Hernan Crespo, Cafu, Gianluca Zambrotta, Roberto Carlos, Veron, Robert Pires and Fabio Capello were all in attendance.

“Football is a human phenomenon and special,' Pope Francis was quoted as saying by the Catholic Register.

“A sports event is a highly symbolic act that helps show it is possible to build a culture of encounter and a world of peace in which believers of diverse religions conserve their own identity while living in mutual respect.”

The La Liga side ran out winners of the game 4-3.
