Students of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) with less than 1.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of the end of their first year will be kicked out of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof C. C. Asiabaka, said this at the at the institution's Senate meeting.
Asiabaka said the decision to restore and implement the original policy withdrawing academically deficient students was taken to bring back the spirit of hard work and competitiveness.
According to him, the ultimate aim is to produce high quality graduates.
“The restoration of a credible admission process by management has raised the academic standard and would eventually culminate to producing quality graduates in the near future,” Asiabaka said.
The Vice Chancellor revealed that Heads of Departments had in the past erred by allowing students with less than 1.0 CGPA to register for new semesters.
He said this will stop forthwith, adding that measures have been put in place to ensure identify and remove students that have proven unable to meet up.
