Let's talk about Liverpool. In three months, you have turned from a fringe player to a top star of the Premier League.

Many ridiculed me after the transfer that Liverpool was too is too big for me. But I was always quiet, too, when I got little playing time in the beginning.”

But you didn’t like that.

I knew, of course, because of the experience at Bayern and Inter, that I have to be patient, work focused and then take my chance when I get it.

Xherdan Shaqiri played for Inter Milan before his move to England

It was reported that they wanted you to leave in 2014 after the first game because 19-year-old Gianluca Gaudino came in to replace you.

It did not have to do anything to Gaudino, we did not play in the same position. But if we already speak of him, where does he play now?

He was briefly with St. Gallen, then with Chievo and is now 21 with no club.

I'm sorry. He was very talented. I really liked him as a player.”

When are you going to have coffee with Gary Neville?

"Not at all. I do not care what he says. I do not care if he says now that I'm playing good.”

After all, he had to wear a shirt from you, which you sent to him.

“It was an idea of the club that I liked to follow. But I do not bring my services to my critics.

The difference to Bayern under Pep Guardiola is that Jürgen Klopp trusts you.

Xherdan Shaqiri worked with Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich

I understand myself excellently with him. I like people so open. And that we can talk in German, of course, is great.

Once he folded you on the square. A legendary picture, the long and the small.

It was just a free kick I should have kicked. But it was a funny photo. But Klopp impresses me so much that I say: ‘I want to win the title for this man’. And if we continue like this, everything is possible. I believe.

What do you prefer to win: the Premier League or the Champions League?

Preferably both. But if I had to choose, it would be the championship in England. That would be my biggest dream, especially since Liverpool last won it (1990) it before I was as born (1991)

After the double eagle affair, he did not take you to the game in Belgrade. Could you understand the decision?

On the one hand, I understood that Klopp wanted to prevent the game preparation from being unnecessarily disturbed. On the other hand, I would like to go along to help the team.

In the first leg in Liverpool, Serbian fans shouted at you several times, "I'm fooling your mother!" Did you notice that on the pitch?

Yeah, when I stood on the sidelines, I got it. My dad was also in the stadium, of course, he was hit too.”

You now play at Champions League finalists with incredible offensive power. You run into the playmaker's position behind Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. Does that suit you?

I can feel the standing in the team, in the club, in the coach. If you have better players around you, you can also be more effective yourself.”

Do you know the Beatles? They are from Liverpool.

“Naturally. Incidentally, I last saw a photo on Instagram, on which fans from Firmino, Mané, Salah and I made the four Beatles and wrote on it: ‘The Fab Four’. That means something in Liverpool!

Do Salah and you also talk about FC Basel in between?

When I first came to Liverpool, he first told me, ‘Do you remember when I was in Basel during the rehearsal, you pushed me two tunnels in a row?’ He still knew that. We laughed heartily.”

He spent a whole week in trial training near Basel. Unimaginable today, when he was nominated as a world footballer.

Is somehow the madness, yes.

How did you get settled in Liverpool? Have you ever been to the city?

Xherdan Shaqiri says he would love to win the Premier League title with Liverpool

It was such a story too ... (laughs) I was just honest when I said I'd never been downtown. Look: I live in Manchester and drive to Liverpool for football. But in the city? Do you know what's going on when you're running around as a Liverpool player? My teammates say it's not easy to move freely. But you know something ...?

“If we become champions, I'm sure I'll get to know all the corners of Liverpool at the celebrations. But first the work, then the pleasure. That's my motto.”
