Tringale return to defend Franklin Templeton Shootout
Cameron Tringale will return to defend this week's Franklin Templeton Shootout, but without partner Jason Day.
Tringale and Day won last year's 12-team unofficial PGA Tour money tournament by one stroke, but the world number two is a notable absentee as he spends time with his family following the birth of his second child.
Chris Kirk had originally replaced Day ahead of Thursday's opening round at the Tiburon Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, Florida, but the American withdrew on Monday due to a back injury.
Tringale is now on his third partner in the space of a week, with Camilo Villegas stepping up to fill the void.
"Camilo and I know each other pretty well," said Tringale, who finished second at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in October.
"We play at the same course, the Bear's Club back in Jupiter, and worked with the same coach. It'll be a very comfortable pairing for me, and I think for him, too."
Harris English and Matt Kuchar, who won the event in 2013, were runners-up last year and return this week, looking to claim a second title.
Sean O'Hair and Kenny Perry reigned supreme in 2012 but the pair return with different partners this time around.
O'Hair will team up with Mike Weir, while three-time champion Perry - who has made the most Shootout appearances as he prepares for his 13th outing - and Steve Stricker will play to together.
Of Weir, O'Hair said: "We've known each other for a long time. He's a great guy and I'm sure we'll get along great on the golf course.
"Hopefully we can play well enough to obviously be in it on Sunday. I'm actually looking forward to playing again. I've had quite a bit of time off."
The 24-man field will also feature five players who have won majors - Jason Dufner (2013 US PGA Championship), Retief Goosen (2001 and 2004 U.S. Open), Zach Johnson (2007 The Masters, 2015 The Open), Graeme McDowell (2010 U.S. Open) and Weir (2003 The Masters).
Dufner will play alongside Brant Snedeker, Goosen has been paired with Danny Lee, Johnson has Patrick Rodgers as a partner, while McDowell and Woodland will team up.
Also in the field are Patrick Berger (Charley Hoffman), Billy Horschel (Hunter Mahan), J.B. Holmes (Patrick Reed) and Charles Howell III (Rory Sabbatini).
