Australia's David Warner confirms Sheffield Shield return

Australia vice-captain David Warner looks set to be fit for the start of the Test series against New Zealand after confirming he will make his comeback for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield next week.

The opening batsman has been sidelined since breaking his left thumb when he was struck by a short ball from Steven Finn during the one-day international series in England last month.

Warner last week stated he was hopeful of playing in the Sheffield Shield opener against South Australia and has now confirmed he will make his return in the game which starts next Wednesday.

The left-hander posted on Instagram: "Pumped to get out there next week and play for the Blues. Really looking forward to the pink ball shield round.

"Hopefully we can get off to a good start for the season and also put on a good game for the people who come out and watch at Adelaide oval."

The three-match Test series between Australia and New Zealand starts in Brisbane on November 5.
