Officer Shoots a Knife-Wielding Man Who Was Setting a Car on Fire, Police Say

NEW YORK — A New York police officer shot a man Sunday afternoon as he was setting a car on fire outside a police precinct in Queens, police said.

The man, who was not wearing pants or underwear, displayed a knife before he was shot in the arm near the intersection of 215th Street and Northern Boulevard, close to the 111th Precinct in Bayside, police said.

He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, police said.

At least one police officer was also taken to a hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries.
