Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino into Nurnberger Versicherungscup semi-finals
Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino continued her fine run at the WTA Nurnberger Versicherungscup, as Angelique Kerber also eased into the semi-finals on Thursday.
Spaniard Arruabarrena-Vecino upset third seed Sabine Lisicki to reach the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
And she put in another fine performance to dispense of Lisicki's German compatriot and eighth seed Carina Witthoft in a 6-0 6-4 victory at the clay-court event in Nuremburg.
Arruabarrena-Vecino broke serve on six occasions, particularly going after Witthoft's second serve.
Her reward for victory is a semi-final showdown with Karin Knapp. The sixth seed safely saw off the challenge of qualifier Yulia Putintseva in a 6-2 6-4 victory.
On the other side of the draw, home-favourite Kerber was in no mood to hang around as she defeated Misaki Doi 6-2 6-3 in little over an hour.
Doi held serve on just three occasions during a difficult outing, as Kerber booked a contest with fourth seed Roberta Vinci - the Italian needing three sets to see off Kurumi Nara 6-1 1-6 6-4.
