Wi-Fi only mode, SD card support now available on Android
Google continues to attempt to make its amps more accessible to users in emerging markets with the addition of two new cool features.
Today, the company announced a Wi-Fi only option for the Google Maps app for Android and it has also added support for SD card data download.
Google has been testing the Wi-Fi option for about a month and the new features may not seem like a thing, but it should be a big deal for people who use budget smartphones with limited internal storage and a prepaid data plan.
Entry-level smartphones come with internal storage capacities as low as 4GB, while higher-end models range between 8GB and 32GB. For many of us, that’s not enough for all the videos, music, apps, and photos we cram onto our beloved smartphones.
"To ensure that Google Maps users with any storage capacity can download and use offline areas when they need them most, we’ve added the ability to download your offline areas to an external SD card (if your device supports them) on Google Maps for Android. Now you’ll never have to choose between snapping more food photos or the ability to navigate offline," said Google in a blog post.
Google also says it has added more transportation options into Maps along with integration with many ride hailing or taxi apps across the world.
According to Techcrunch, these new features are part of Google drive to tailor its products to suit a new generation of mobile-only internet users.
