Following the elections into the board of the NFF last Tuesday, which produced Ambassador Chris Giwa as the new president at the helms, Nigeria could be on a cliff right now, about to fall into a coma.
FIFA last Friday sent Nigeria a letter warning that the whole process be aborted and statutes followed accordingly, an event to which Chris Giwa reacted saying they would communicate to the World Football Governing body on the legitimacy and eligibility of the board
However, Sepp Blatter and his executive members would have none of that, as they issued midnight of September 1st as deadline for the football house to be put in order
FIFA statutes have it that a and representative be present at any general election into the board of national FA’s, this was not followed as there were no representative from the two bodies last Tuesday
The closest witness to the elections, NFF Secretary-General, Musa Ahmadu who is currently indisposed is allegedly been pressured to consent to the authenticity of the elections
According to Ahmadu is been threatened with arrest by security agencies if he doesn’t cooperate
Giwa claims that his elections are free and fair, however that claim has to be substantiated by the Secretary-General Musa Ahmadu
FIFA has refused to recognise Giwa and his board and have demanded that new elections hold on September 4, which was the resolve of the General Congress of the NFF, purportedly held by another faction of the football house
As the clock ticks away, with FIFA standing closely at the door, the fate of Nigerian football is not known
Whether the involved parties would get back to the drawing board and set the course afresh cannot be predicted
What can be confirmed is that FIFA will make a decision from the standpoint of government interference and we all know what that portends for Nigerian football right now.
