Stanislas Wawrinka made it a great day for Swiss tennis as he followed Roger Federer's win in Brisbane with victory in the Chennai Open final.

The world number four and defending champion was clear favourite in the final against Aljaz Bedene, and he lived up to the billing with a 6-3 6-4 win at the ATP 250 hard-court event.

Wawrinka's victory mirrored that of compatriot Federer, who claimed the Brisbane International final a few hours earlier taking him to 1000 Tour wins.

Both players started the match well and held serve on two occasions without even a glimpse of a break, but Wawrinka pressurised the Bedene serve in the sixth and finally found a way through.

He won the first three points of the game and, although he wasted the opening chance to break, he converted the second to move ahead in the match.

Bedene was unable to make any inroads on the Wawrinka serve and after 31 minutes the top seed had taken the set.

The second set followed a similar pattern with both men looking comfortable on serve, but Bedene's concentration again slipped in the seventh.

Wawrinka took full advantage and at the second attempt won the game, moving 4-3 ahead.

He consolidated the break with ease before serving out for the match to claim a second successive title in Chennai after 71 minutes on court.
