Marcus Mariota believes learning the Tennessee Titans playbook is the biggest challenge facing him after he was taken with the second pick in the NFL Draft.

Oregon quarterback Mariota was selected by the Titans following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' decision to take Florida State's Jameis Winston first overall.

There had been much speculation that the Titans would trade out of the second pick, but a deal never materialised, meaning Mariota will now compete for the starting quarterback job with Zach Mettenberger.

And Mariota told NFL Network: "It's such a gift to be able to share it [being drafted] with all my family and friends and it's truly a dream come true.

"Learning the playbook [will be the biggest challenge]. I'm going to do my best to put my best foot forward and that's being able to learn the complexities of the offense so that when I step in I can contribute.

Asked if there was any possibility of him being traded away from Tennessee in the near future, Mariota added: "They're [the Titans] excited to bring me on board.

"They said we're going to look forward to the future and that's what I'm planning on."
