Famous social media couples: Why we love them or why we love to hate them
When you experience love or meet someone wonderful, as musician Wurld sang, you want to show them off to the world.
It makes sense to share the love of your life with the world and not hide them. But nowadays, it has moved from just showing your significant other off to full-blown couple’s content.
What exactly is couple’s content?
- Cute videos of them in bed
- TikTok challenges
- Videos of them on a date
- Videos of them giving relationship advice or just talking
- Some couples curate their proposal, wedding preparation and wedding day and create a channel just for that.
I asked people on Twitter what they thought about couples who create content, and this is what some people had to say.
Benjamin says, “I don't care for them. But maybe I'm not the target audience.”
Tamilore opines that he finds them pretentious. “Can’t help but think there will always be a need to perform if a large chunk of your relationship is for public consumption.”
Tolu says they are, “Doing the most.”
Feranmi believes that it is “Too much information.”
Chi-Chi says "it should be banned"
Instagram, YouTube or even TikTok couple's content cannot be banned because content creation is the crux of the 21st century, everyone is looking to be entertained or create entertainment.
Love is one of the things people talk about or aspire to; that is why these couples will always have their target audience.
There are those who absolutely adore these couples. The aspiration towards fairy tale romance is what causes the adoration. They want to "Aww" and "God when". Others are simply indifferent and some want to choke with envy.
But are these YouTube couples raising and feeding a generation of over-sharers? I saw one YouTube couple with a video captioned, “The first time we did it as virgins.”
That is when it gets cringey, when it is too much information.
But it is not all that bad, Mr Eazi and Temi Otedola have their own podcast which we do not cringe at. It is quite cute.
Akah and Claire also give us a lot of the couple’s content even though Akah was under fire in 2020 for saying he wanted his wife to keep breastfeeding their baby.
Another popular Instagram couple are the Otigbas, who delights us with sensual pictures.
Ling and Lamb, a Nigerian American couple were a viral sensation on TikTok at some point.
But one can hardly feel a certain way about these couples when people open Instagram pages for their pets and babies, as long as it makes them, and others happy too.
