With the first season of Euphoria now officially wrapped up not quite with a neat little bow, but certainly wrapped upthe next step of TV adoration would seem to enter the picture: award buzz.
After Sunday night's finale, fans heaped much deserved praise on the show, as well as the performances in particular of Zendaya ( Rue ), Jacob Elordi ( Nate ), and Hunter Schafer (Jules). While those hopes are certainly well-placed and well intentioned, the reality is that none of them will be nominated at this year's Emmys.

For anyone paying attention to TV news, this is not exactly breaking news: the Emmy nominations came out last month . But still, for more casual viewers, when TV's most prestigious award show airs on September 22nd, there might be a major wonder as to why the hottest show of the summer is a non-presence.
The answer is because of the odd rules that go into the Emmy cycle. This year, the deadline for shows to be considered was May 31 (with an exception for what the Television Academy calls "hanging episodes," meaning if the show debuted before May 31 but had its season finish up before the end of June, it was still allowed for consideration). This rule explains why Amy Adams, who starred in last summer's big HBO hit Sharp Objects, is only now nominated in her Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie category.
So, as deserving as some of the Euphoria favorites might be, they'll have to wait more than a full year to see if their name gets called, along with some of the other bigger shows of this summer (like the cast of Stranger Things and the ladies of Big Little Liescough cough Laura Dern and Meryl Streep cough cough)
For those looking for awards, though, hope is not entirely lost. Euphoria will be eligible for the Golden Globes, which celebrate both TV and Film, and will be held this winter. That show also has a tendency to award newer, trendy shows, so things are looking positive in that regard for fans of both Euphoria and Zendaya's performance.
