Former Ghana international, Kevin-Prince Boateng has been sacked by Bundesliga club Schalke.
The contract of the former AC Milan midfielder along with that of Sidney Sam was cancelled with 'with immediate effect' as a 'consequence' of their surprise defeat by Cologne on Sunday, May 10.
The Sunday defeat left their hopes for a Europe qualification hanging by the threads and the club's General Manager Horst Heldt had vowed to take action.
With just four wins in 2015, Schalke are in sixth which is the final Europa League qualifying spot.
They are just two points off Borussia Dortmund and with two matches to go, pressure have mount on coach Roberto Di Matteo.
Marco Hoger has also been suspended from training or playing with the first-team squad.
Boateng, and Sam, who has played five times for the Germany were among the top earners in the club.
