Vardy is said to be struggling with the injury all season, managing it with painkillers.

Leicester City however feel this is the right time for the striker to undergo the operation which will rule him out of FA Cup and Premier League clashes against Tottenham.

He could be back for Leicester's trip to Aston Villa on January 16.

The 28-year-old has been in fantastic form this season and tops the Premier League goal chart with 15 goals.
