How has the mobile site been doing so far?
The mobile site was launched at the same time that MI launched his illegal music album 2 and the numbers doubled and brought down our servers. But it is back up and now.
How do you determine the quality of music that goes up on the site?
We have a team that has a good ear for music. There are songs I don’t listen to but my team members can listen and recognize talent. A lot of artist are mad at us for not posting their music but we cant post all the music we get. What we are trying to do is to promote the best Nigerian song that people can enjoy. We are looking for the wow effect; we are all about the quality even though we might get in a few people's bad books.
Can we meet the notjustok team ad where is the notjustok base?
We have on the posting side, Lala boi real name Femi. He works from the UK and is also very consistent. There’s also Swagdaddy real name Mayowa. He is young and the young guys understand what the younger generation wants to listen to. Of course there is Ovie, he is the most known of us all; probably needs to get a shirt saying 'Everyone knows Ovie'. There's Babs real name Babashola, our Business Development guy. There’s also our advertising guy, Bolaji Iwayemi and our developer in the back end Azuka and Kola. That’s pretty much it. We also have advisers that tell us what to do. We have an office in Atlanta but things are gonna change soon.
Plans For The Future of notjustok.com
We have a lot of plans but I dont really want to discuss exactly what we are doing. I like to get things done and then talk about it afterwards. But some insight is that, we are gonna start creating our own original contect that is interactive. We would start the notjustok hype again. But you will hear some things.
Has the Nigerian industry grown past what you envision for it when notjustok started?
Before notjustok started, the last time I heard any music was in 1999 and that was the era of Plantashun Boiz, remedies, you know the Kenny Ogungbe era. That is when music became innovative and prepared enjoyable music. Fast forward to 2006 where Dbanj, Ikechukwu, Naeto C, Eldee with 'Return of the King' Album and a host of others were revolutionizing music with westernised but with local flavour. Now it has changed again with artists like Asa, Nneka and other versatile artists. We are at the point of Wizkid and Davido who also give out amazing stuff. The music is moving forward and we are crossing to other parts of the world and currently we are getting big in the international music scene. It can only get better.
