The humble CEO of IROKO, displayed some of his expensive assets. According to him,
When iROKO started becoming super successful in 2011, on a personal level nothing really changed. I just kept my head down and worked furiously. When we raised $3M in our series A round, nothing changed. No new car, no new watch, no new clothes, no social status no upper class air travel. Nothing. I stayed in Anthony Village on the mainland and actually lived in the BQ of the iROKOtv office for 5 months (madness). Even today, 3 years and $25M later, I haven’t left Anthony Village local. I just kept it simple (although I no longer fly economy - mainly due to my brutal city by city schedule). And I believe emotionally I was content and happy to just be in the game and keep things moving. I was never really a consumer, so it had zero impact my happiness index.
Then 2014 came along and I just started buying stuff. I don’t actually remember why. Perhaps Jay Z made me do it? Rolexes? Range Rovers? His and hers!
Did this make me any happier? Absolutely. For about 5 minutes. Then it was back to what I was doing before. Head down, working furiously trying not to fail and end up in the dark days again
