The football world stood still on this day-June 26-in 2003 when Cameroonian midfielder, Marc-Vivien Foe collapsed on the pitch during the FIFA Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia at Stade Gerland, Lyon in France.
In the 72nd minute of the match Foé collapsed in the centre circle with no other players near him.
After attempts to resuscitate him on the pitch, he was stretched off the field, where he received mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and oxygen.
Medics spent 45 minutes attempting to restart his heart, and although he was still alive upon arrival at the stadium's medical centre he died shortly afterwards, in spite of the efforts to save his life.
Foe was only 28 when he passed and had played for a slew of clubs starting from his home country, Canon Yaounde, Lens and Lyon in France, and West Ham United and Manchester City in England.
He had 64 caps for Cameroon scoring eight goals.
Its been 12 years since death took away this midfield enforcer from the game, but we will keep remembering him.
Like John Obi Mikel of Super Eagles once told FIFA.com, “Everyone knows his name and respects his memory. We mustn't stop thinking of him."
