The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have installed Video Assistant Referee (VAR)equipment Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi Ashanti.
The installation of VAR at the stadium took place on Thursday, March 24, 2022, ahead of the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2022 FIFA World Cup double-header playoff qualifier against the Black Stars of Ghana.
The VAR installation was confirmed through photos posted by the National Sports Authority, Ghana.
Along with the photos was a message that said, "VAR has successfully been installed at the Baba Yara Sports stadium, Kumasi, ahead of the World Cup playoff qualifier between Ghana and Nigeria on Friday.
"This is the first time the technology is applied in Ghana."
VAR installation comes after the controversy involving the Black Stars of Ghana and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the previous qualification round.
The South Africans were not pleased as Ghana were awarded a penalty when both sides met in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier in November 2021.
Andre Ayew converted the penalty which won Ghana the game and the three points will play a key role as the Black Stars progressed to the playoffs.
At 8:30 PM Nigerian time, the Super Eagles will take on the Black Stars of Ghana in the first leg playoff clash on Friday, March 25, 2022.
