Byron Scott confirmed he is set to coach the Los Angeles Lakers, despite the franchise's refusal to confirm the appointment.

The Lakers have been coach-less since Mike d'Antoni's resignation in late April and have proceeded to re-jig their roster ahead of the 2014-15 season minus a head coach.

However, Scott confirmed to an American TV station on Sunday that he would assume the reins of the Staples Center outfit - even though general manager Mitch Kupchak has refused to confirm the news.

"It feels fantastic," Scott told KCBS.

"This is a dream come true. I always wanted to coach the Lakers, especially when I got to coaching. It's so unreal.

"I have to thank Mitch, [owners] Jeanie and Jim Buss to give me this opportunity."
