It is looking increasingly likely Andrew Flintoff will play in the upcoming Big Bash season with the Brisbane Heat.

According to English newspaper The Telegraph, Flintoff is in the final stages of sealing a move to the Australian Twenty20 (T20) side.

The 36-year-old former England captain came out of retirement earlier this year to play T20 cricket for Lancashire, and it seems the man who tormented Australia in the 2005 and 2009 Ashes is keen to continue playing through the Australian summer.

The news comes after Flintoff confirmed in August his desire to try his luck in Australia's T20 competition, telling BBC Radio he was on the verge of signing with the Heat in 2009 before injury scuppered the move.

"If there's an opportunity there, why not? It's one of the things I've wanted to do," he said in August.

"I was about to sign for Queensland in 2009 when I retired."

Flintoff is set to become the second high-profile Englishman to sign on for a Big Bash franchise for the upcoming season with Kevin Pietersen heading to the Melbourne Stars.

The Big Bash season will get underway on December 18 with the final scheduled to be played on January 28.
