Many football loving fans in Nigeria are yet to come to terms with the exclusion of Nigerian striker, Ikechukwu Uche from the provisional Super Eagle's World Cup squad.
The striker who was plies his trade with Villarreal CF of Spain is considered to be one of Nigeria’s most reliable strikers with his 18 international goals haul in 45 appearances for the national teams, only a few behind legendary Rashidi Yekini, Segun Odegbami and Yakubu Aiyegbeni places him among Nigeria's all-time-highest-goal-scorers.
It thus came as a surprise to many that the player could not make the list that included six home-based players, despite being Villarreal's highest goal scorer in 2013/14 season with 18 goals, more than any other Nigerian striker included in the squad.
Interestingly, Uche has insisted that he holds no grudges over his snub, though he would have loves to represent his country.
“Of course as a professional footballer you’d love to represent your country, but I have never had bad words towards the national coach,” the 30-year-old told BBC Sport recently.
“For me, those picked and those left out are also aware that the country’s success is more important than personal glory.
“I thank the coach for that. I also wish my teammates all the best in Brazil because we are all one family whether you are in the squad or not.”
But several people have questioned Coach Stephen Keshi's decision to exclude him.
@marxilin tweeted.
It is widely believed that Uche's national team exile started after some comments he made during the last African Nations Cup which Nigeria won.
Uche has allegedly expressed reservations about Keshi's competence after the Super Eagle's performance at the group stage of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
But former governor of Abia State Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has appealed to Keshi over the matter.
Kalu said.
Uche missed last World Cup in South Africa 2010 due to injury and this might be his last opportunity to represent the Super Eagles.
As a Super Eagles fan. do you think Coach Stephen Keshi was right to leave out the striker?
