Tinkoff-Saxo terminate contract of team manager

Team manager Bjarne Riis' contract with Tinkoff-Saxo has been terminated by mutual consent.

Riis was suspended by the Russian team on Tuesday in a decision that they insisted had nothing to do with their poor performance in 2015.

Alberto Contador won the Vuelta a Espana last year under Riis' guidance, yet Tinkoff-Saxo have just two wins to their name this season.

A team statement read: "Tinkoff Sport A/S - managing company of team Tinkoff Saxo - and Bjarne Riis have reached a mutual agreement to terminate all contracts entered between Tinkoff Sport A/S and Bjarne Riis with immediate effect.

"All terms of said agreement shall remain confidential and both parties shall abstain from making any further comment .

"Early next week, Tinkoff Saxo will announce, in a separate statement, the new structure of its technical and performance group."
