Veteran San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Hudson underwent ankle surgery on Friday, ruling him out for two months.

Hudson, 39, is likely to retire at the end of the 2015 season, one which Giants manager Bruce Bochy believes will be unaffected by an enforced eight-week break.

Bochy said the time had come to send Hudson in for surgery, and believes it will be best for the four-time All-Star.
"It just started nagging at him, so I think he just wants to get it cleaned up," Bochy said.
"It's going to cut back on what he can do right now.
"But in the long run, it's the best thing."

The World Series champions are likely to have Hudson in their starting rotation, which will be led by star Madison Bumgarner.
Hudson finished last year with a 9-13 win-loss record, and a 3.57 ERA.
