Footage after the game shows Herrera spitting on the Manchester City crest as he walked to the dressing room.

After applauding the United supporters Herrera was walking towards the player tunnel of the Etihad and stopped to spit on the crest on his way to the changing room.

The 28-year-old has, however, come out to deny that it was intentional to spit on the crest.

A spokesperson for United stated that Ander has been shown the footage of the incident but is certain that it was just a coincidence as he walked of the pitch.

The Spokesperson said, “Ander has seen the footage of the incident and is mortified at any suggestion that his actions were deliberate.”

“It was entirely accidental and there was no intent whatsoever.”

Speaking after the game Herrera talked about how the older United players inspired the comeback against City.

He said,  “Ash and Mike were in the dressing room. They have the power in their words, but everyone was talking. We didn't talk too much about tactics, just about our pride. Our pride on the pitch and that our fans were going to have a difficult night if we got beaten. We did it for them.”

Regardless that Ander Herrera stated that he is not guilty of the offence he is accused of, Manchester City can still submit a formal complaint about the midfielder's actions for investigation by the Football Federation (FA).

Ander Herrera and his Manchester United teammates will next be in action when they take on West Bromwich Albion in their next Premier League game on Sunday, April 15 at Old Trafford.
