Alcohol, drug abuse, cultism, vices not allowed in ABU, VC warns

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has said it will deal with students who drink alcohol, abuse drugs or engage in cultism and other vices.

Students of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria have been warned to shun vices while in the institution or face the wrath of the management.

According to a statement issued and signed by the institution's Director Public Affairs Directorate, Dr. Isma’ila Shehu, the institution's Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, gave the warning at the flag-off of the institution’s 2014/2015 central students’ orientation programme

The Vice Chancellor said students found taking alcohol and dangerous drugs or engaging in other social vices like cultism will be dealt with.

He also urged the students to be security conscious.

“You also need to be security conscious while you engage in your academic pursuit in the university campus," Mustapha said.

"Report any suspicious objects or movement that is not normal around your vicinity, either in the hostel or lecture room.”

The students were urged to shun negative influences within and outside the institution.
