French forward Anthony Martial, who became British football’s most expensive teenager after his move to Manchester United scored a fantastic solo goal on his debut.

The 19-year-old was played in Ashley Young before bamboozling Martin Skrtel and shrugging off the coolly place the ball beyond Simon Mignolet for United's third game of the day.

That game surely sealed victory for Manchester United against their old rivals Liverpool.

What a dream debut for the young Martial in Old Traford.

David de Gea was back in the starting 11 after signing a new contract extension for Manchester United.

That was the spur they needed ahead of their biggest game of the season so far.

With captain Wayne Rooney missing Marouane Fellaini was the striker for United but failed to convert a chance in the first half.

After being played through by Juan Mata, Fellaini simply lifted his lame effort well over.

Memphis Depay created a chance for himself in the 22nd minute, racing through the Liverpool defence only to find the side-net.

After a goalless first half, Louis van Gaal brought in Ashely Young for Depay and that added the much needed urgency to the Manchester United side.

The goal finally came in the 49th minute after Mata pulled back a free-kick just inside the are for Daley Blind to swept the ball past Mignolet.

Liverpool nearly found the equalizer through Christian Benteke but his shot was saved by Chris Smalling with De Gea beaten.

Danny Ings chested down a raking pass to curl a shot only for De Gea to save before Blind saved off the line from an Ings’ close-range header.

It looked like Liverpool would find the equalizer but United got a penalty after Joe Gomez rashly slid in to tackle Ander Herrera in the box.

The Spaniard stepped up to convert the resulting spot-kick to extend United's lead.

Liverpool got got backing to the game with a Benteke wonder goal from an overhead kick with six minutes remaining.

Martial however put the game beyond Liverpool with his sol striker.
