The Akwa Ibom state government has been advised to implement the use of Speed Limiting Devices.

According to the Zonal Commander of Zone 6, Assistant Corps Marshal Jonas Agwu, the use of SLDs should be introduced because of the state's good network of roads.

During his familiarisation tour of Akwa Ibom on August 8, 2016, he called on stakeholders to support the 'zero road crash' mandate.

"We are doing advocacy to educate people, even in the course of my tour I will talk to our royal fathers, the press and stakeholders on the need for them to ensure that they support FRSC on this campaign.

We need this support in the area of logistics, we need more patrol vehicles, and we need ambulances and tow truck to serve the state better.

We believe that this support we are enjoying in the state would translate to more mutual and logistics support for the command.

The support in terms of office accommodation as you know road safety is capital intensive. It costs a lot of money to put patrol vehicles on the road”, he said.

Agwu also advised motorists to avoid excessive speeding.

The SLDs have been described as "laudable and life saving’’ by Alhaji Najeem Yasin, the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

"We know very well the danger of speeding. It is very important to save the lives of our drivers and passengers. I hope it will not end with commercial operators at motor parks, but be extended to private vehicles as well," he said.
