When Chelsea paid £58m for Spanish International Alvaro Morata, his signing was heralded on social media as a match made in heaven and a better replacement for Diego Costa who was to return to Spain.
Fast forward five months into his time with the reigning English champions he has been deemed a 'miss' by some fans following his awful performance in front of goal in the game against Arsenal where he missed three clear one-on-one chances.
Morata's first chance came in the 14th minute, but he made a huge mess of it, racing through on goal after a long ball but his finish was dreadful with only the keeper to beat.
His second came in the 70th minute to give Chelsea the lead, Cesc Fabregas slid the ball through for the striker, who showed good strength to beat Chambers to the ball, but clipped his finish off target.
The final chance in the 93rd minute to win the game, a ball over the top released him, but his finish is was weak.
Despite the online bashing, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has showed support for his player, who he believes needs to 'stay calm', 'keep working' and just be mindful that 'the goal is coming'.
Conte said at the Emirates; “I repeat I understand for a striker it’s not easy if you don’t score, but don’t forget for Alvaro it’s his first season playing regularly. He didn’t always play with Real Madrid and Juventus.
"You have to know this. I’m very happy with his commitment and the way he’s playing. He has to stay calm continue to play this way. The goal is coming.” “We win together, we lose together, we draw together."
Morata was reported to have been signed by Chelsea after failing in their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku, hence rival fans compare both players.
Morata has scored a total of 12 goals since his arrival (10 in the League, one in the Champions League and one in the Carabao Cup).
