PDP accuses President of visiting Nasarawa for dead cows

The opposition party said the president should have visited crisis-hit Benue State instead.

In a statement released by the party on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, while the president is currently on a 1-day working visit to Nasarawa, the opposition party condemned the president as showing favour to one side.

The statement concluded that the president's official reason for visiting the state is a ruse to cover his real intention of sympathising with herders who recently lost cattle.

An attack by cattle rustlers on Yamadaga village, Kadarko community in Keana Local Government Area in Nasarawa had led to the death of 73 cows on January 29.

PDP's statement read, "We commend Muhammadu Buhari for visiting Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State on the pretense of commissioning special schools, but to commiserate with the people for the killings and the loss of cattle of some herders in the area.

"We are however surprised that instead of President Buhari to visit Benue State that had similar incidents with mind boggling casualties involving humans, the President choose to call on Lafia, neglecting the people of Benue State.

"This action of President Buhari has once again reminded Nigerians that the President is just for a section of the country and not for everybody as he claimed in his inauguration speech."

Benue attacks

In attacks allegedly carried out by Fulani herdsmen in Guma and Logo Local Government Area of Benue between Sunday, December 31, 2017, and Tuesday, January 2, 2018, 50 people were reportedly killed.
