Anxiety in Abuja as Police and Shiites clash at Wuse market

The Wuse market area in Abuja was in a frenzy as Police and Shiite members clashed yet again.

Again, members of the Shiite sect and men of the Nigeria Police Force were in confrontation at the Wuse Market area of Abuja on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.

Calm was however noticed within the market as traders were seen going about their daily activities.

The Shiites are protesting the continuous detention of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

The protesters hadclashed with the Police at the Maitama district of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

One person was reported killedwhile 115 Shiites were arrested by the Police.

Protesters were seen defending themselves with sticks and stones as the Police released at them.

The Shiite minority group have been protesting the release of their leader who has been in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS) since 2015.

El-Zakzaky and his wife were arrested after members of the group clashed with officers and men of the Nigerian Army in Zaria.

Hundreds of Shiite members were reportedly killed by the Army during the clash.
