Following their televised interview and first joint appearance since that announcement, here are other details we learnt of the royal couple’s engagement.
1. They’ve been engaged for a while
Speaking of the cozy, roast-chicken-involved night of their engagement, the Prince says: “it happened a few weeks ago, earlier this month… it was here at our cottage.
“It was a standard, typical night for us.”
And the American actress was just so eager to say yes.
“I could barely let [him] finish proposing, I said - 'can I say yes now'?"
2. That engagement ring
“The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s her favorite.” Prince Harry says.
3. Something from Africa
Prince Harry says he convinced his new fiancée to join him in Botswana two weeks after they met and it was in Botswana that he’s later select stones for the big moment.
“The main stone itself I sourced from Botswana,” he says of the huge diamond rock set firmly in the middle of the ring that now adorns the finger of the love of his life.
4. There’s a connection to Princess Diana
“The little diamonds on the side are from my mother’s jewelry collection to make sure she’s with us on this crazy journey together,” says the 33-year-old grandson of the Queen of England.
Prince Harry and Prince William are both sons of Princess Diana who was famously married to the Queen’s son, Prince Charles before her well-documented death in 1997.
5. No more movie roles
Meghan Markle will no longer be acting, the couple have announced.
The actress’ most popular role is that of a paralegal named Rachel Zane in the American Legal Thriller series, “Suits.”
“I don't see it as giving anything up. I see it as a change. It's a new chapter…" she says.
"Now it's time to work as a team with you," she adds as she turns to Prince Harry in the clip of that interview [below].”
6. Wedding date
While a particular wedding date has yet not been set, the couple have been billed to wed in the Spring of 2018.
