Womenswear brand explores childhood for SS 18 R-T-W collection
Maki Oh is inspired by playground games from her childhood days for ready-to-wear SS18 collection
Largely influenced by 'Suwe' (An African typed hopscotch game played in sand where marks are checked with a stick), chronicling her childhood in Lagos with games, birthday parties, Sunday dresses (‘Aunty Give Me Cake Dresses’ ) and other festive occasions for the collection Maki Oh worked on layered tulle in blush and nudes hues on the piece highlighted in the collection.
Her influenced by experiences close to home/childhood in Lagos Nigeria, playing dress up in mum's room and school yard games were heavily featured with the accents on the looks featuring tiered ruffle shirts, tiered and cropped pants, free dresses amongst others.
She again worked with her signature 'Adire', a Yoruba hand dying technique styles. She fuses effortlessly chic silhouettes and flattering dense fit on the looks with few tending towards androgynous.
