Benue Gov empowers youth with branded wheelbarrows
The Governor of Benue State has been berated for donating branded wheelbarrows to youths of the state as part of his empowerment program.
According to a media aide of the Governor, the gesture is to make the youths self-reliant and self-employed instead of going around looking for non-existent white collar jobs.
However, a Facebook user, Moses Ochonu who posted photographs of the wheelbarrows with the inscription took a swipe at the manner of empowerment by calling it an embarrassment.
This is what Ochonu wrote:
"Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has forced me out of my self-imposed Facebook hiatus. Don't laugh; this is youth empowerment and job creation, Ortom style.
Who dey do us dis thing? Who did we offend?"
To justify the wheelbarrow empowerment scheme, a government official noted that the move by the Governor came because Benue is a state known for farming and the governor decided to provide youths with wheelbarrows to help in carrying their produce from their farmlands.
