5 books Bill Gates wants you to read this summer

The billionaire founder of Microsoft said the books he has selected made him think. I would assume he meant in a good way.

Bill Gates meets President Muhammadu Buhari on January 20, 2016

Bill Gates says it's just a coincidence that the five books he is advising you to read in the summer have math and science at their core. Make of that what you will.

"This summer, my recommended reading list has a good dose of books with science and math at their core. But there's no science or math to my selection process," says Gates.

The billionaire founder of Microsoft said the books he has selected made him think. I would assume he meant in a good way.

Regardless, here are the five books that Bill Gates advises you to read this summer:

Gates says he loves the technical details of this book.  It's a sci-fi novel and Gates says, "You might lose patience with all the information you'll get about space flight."

This is a book about math. I don't know how much that will mean to you for summer reading but Gates says, "In some places, the math gets quite complicated." You may want to rethink this one.

This is a book about energy. I don't if you want to think about vital questions over a bottle of wine at the pool side, but Mr. Gates says you should read it so I suggest you should.

Gates was known as a fiercely competitive entrepreneur in his heyday but thankfully, this book is not about how to bulldoze your way through competition. Instead, it's about Japan - good, old entertaining Japan returning to its former economic glories.

This comedy traces a battle between two former lovers who are both trying to prove that they know more about where we came from than the other.  No, actually it isn't. It attempts to tell the entire human race in just 400 pages. I guess that will be interesting.
