Nigerians are very tired of watching the Okoye brothers fight

What people want from Psquare is simple; make music, perform shows and feed your fans and followers with your celebrity.

And it’s not because we as a country hate fighting. On the contrary, Nigerians love to watch a good fight. Have you ever chanced upon a street fight between two people anywhere in a Nigerian city? It attracts a huge crowd, with people screaming all over, phones out, trying to document a piece of it for future viewership. It’s usually a mini-carnival when it happens.

But Nigerians are tired of Psquare fighting. We are tired of watching these grown men come out every year to social media to invite us into one fight or another.

Peter and Paul, the Okoye twins were born in 1981, according to information on the internet. That means, in 2017, they both celebrated their 36th birthdays. That’s a lot of years between them. 36 years of brotherhood and existence in life, and they still can’t hold it together.

Since 2014, the Okoye brothers have been at each other’s throat. Every year brings new problems for them. One year, it was a clash of egos. The next year, a fight over the influence of the women in their lives was the big deal. 2016 was the height of it all. The brothers fought bitterly on social media, with Peter Okoye firing Jude Okoye and setting up the business.

The initial reaction to these episodes has been concern and prayers for the health of the group Psquare. Peter and Paul are a rarity in the African music space. They are the biggest music group from the continent, with over two decades of service to the culture and the people. They have done it all on the African scene. Their records have travelled far and wide, healing hearts, entertaining millions of people, creating emotional connections, and pushing the borders of stardom in Africa. They remain a vital part of the culture, and that’s why everything about them draw continent-wide interest.

And that’s what people would rather see continue. Every time the Okoyes take time out and threaten to split the group, they present the possibility of an industry without Psquare. They bring to life, fears that they would split up, after numerous years together. Groups in Africa rarely stay together. They never stick long enough to become legendary. Psquare is proof that it is possible; that family and business can mix well and be successful.

And that’s why people are tired of these consistent bickering. They would rather not be brought closer to the reality of their split with these numerous fights. If they want to split they should, and quietly too. We would appreciate that. People have had enough.

Last year, during the heat of their battle, a fan cried her heart out at the thought of Psquare being non-existent. The video which showed the lady begging the twins not to split went viral in Nigeria, and made headlines. But this time, such a gesture would be impossible to find.
