Youngest World Cup Coach and a 27-Year-Old Assistant: How Serbia Found a Golden Duo for the Future in Istanbul

The Serbian U17 basketball national team achieved tremendous success in Istanbul, winning a silver medal. Leading them to this achievement from the bench were, among others, head coach Stevan Mijović and his assistant Nikola Nešić.

The "Young Eagles" have once again brought joy to the nation. Following their gold medal at last year's European Championship, they've now secured a silver at the World Cup.

In essence, they were the best, if you exclude the Americans, who have an undefeated record in this age category.

Stevan Mijović replicated his success from last year, and the current assistant to Dragan Šakota at AEK was awarded the best coach of the tournament. All this at just 32 years old, making him the youngest coach in the competition.

Alongside him is Nikola Nešić, his assistant, who is only 27. While many questioned Serbia's quality and talent, both on the court and on the bench, this generation in Istanbul proved them wrong.

Who knows, perhaps our greatest coaches have just found their successors, and this young duo's ascent might just begin after Istanbul.

Of course, we shouldn't forget the others. With the help of the rest of the coaching staff (assistants Dejan Đokić and Mihailo Šušić, conditioning coach Nikola Ćušić, physiotherapist Stevan Kljajić, doctor Lazar Mirčeta), these two masterfully led the team and elevated them after an initial loss to Australia.

It seems that for Serbia, at least when it comes to basketball, there's no winter in sight.
