Jamaican Blake could not recover after reacting slowly out of the blocks at a IAAF Diamond League meet in New York, finishing second behind Carter with a time of 10.21 seconds.

Although not an official Diamond League race, Blake was disappointed with his performance and accepted that he has plenty to work on.

"First of all, (it was a) great race to Nesta Carter," Blake said. "He's been running well recently and deserves to win a race like this.

"I just need to work on my start. I cannot make mistakes like that at these big meets. Bad starts are frustrating. It's just something I have to work on."

Meanwhile, in an officially sanctioned Diamond League event, New Zealand's Valerie Adams extended her extraordinary winning streak in the shot put to 50 meets, taking victory with a throw of 19.68 metres.

"Keeping my streak going today was awesome," Adams said. "Training has been going great. There have been some days where there's aches and pains, but that's just being an athlete.

"This was a really good class of throwers today so they kept me accountable, really kept me on top of my game. But I'm glad I could grab a win."
