Xabi Alonso: We Can Definitely Play Better

Xabi Alonso has assessed Chelsea's start to the season, admitting that the Blues need to tighten up defensively.

"I feel that things will improve, but right now it is not enough. There are positives, but also areas where we must do better—not just our results, but our overall performance, especially the number of goals we are conceding," Alonso said.

The Spanish tactician stressed that the team's defensive issues are not down to the backline alone. In his view, attacking efficiency directly affects how solid Chelsea are without the ball.

"The way we attack helps us defend. Everything is connected, and many aspects are still a work in progress. We are analyzing the situation critically and working hard to stop conceding so many goals. We can definitely play better," the manager added.

Chelsea have yet to find the required defensive stability this season, having conceded at least two goals in each of their opening four Premier League matches—a trend that has quickly become a major concern for the London outfit.
