The Wimbledon champion had seen off wild card Duan Yingying in straight sets in the opening round of the WTA International hard-court event, and it was a similar story against Jovanovski.

Kvitova raced into a 5-0 lead in the first set and, although her opponent did finally get on the board to avoid a bagel, the respite was short-lived as the second seed held to love in the next game to take a one-set lead in just 25 minutes.

World number 56 Jovanovski did threaten briefly at the start of the second set, but Kvitova was able to successfully save three break points in her opening service game.

From 2-1 down, the Czech reeled off five consecutive games - including two breaks of serve - to secure her passage into the quarter-finals, where she will take on either Katerina Siniakova or Tereza Smitkova.

In the other half of the draw, fourth seed Zarina Diyas will take on Zheng Saisai in the last eight after both came through their matches on Tuesday.

The unseeded Zheng took two hours to overcome Polona Hercog 6-3 2-6 6-2, while Diyas had a more comfortable ride against Timea Babos, prevailing 6-3 6-4.
