Tomas Berdych involved in awkward news conference

A stunned Tomas Berdych was asked how he felt heading into the Wimbledon quarter-finals, despite losing in the fourth round.

The Czech suffered a 6-3 6-3 6-2 loss to Frenchman Gilles Simon at the All England Club on Monday.

But one reporter appeared unaware of the result as the sixth seed faced the media afterwards.

"Tomas how do you feel after that match? Do you feel good and in good shape going into the quarter-finals?" he asked.

A shocked Berdych responded: "Sorry, excuse me?"

"Do you feel your form is good going into the quarter-finals?"

A disbelieving Berdych turned to the moderator before saying: "Is he trying to make fun of me?"

The reporter proceeded to apologise.

Nicolas Mahut was involved in a similar situation in 2014, when he was congratulated after losing in the French Open first round.

Berdych hit 30 unforced errors in his loss to Simon, who produced 21 winners to claim victory in one hour, 56 minutes.

The 29-year-old Berdych was unhappy with his performance.

"Not the day I would like to be on the court and perform from on the court like that," he said.

"I don't want to underestimate his performance of which I think was very good, very high level but especially the way I played, I was not competitive enough for today.

"But that's how it is and I just need to take it. I saw it and keep moving forward."
