William Gomes has been rewarded for his impressive rise over the past season and strong start to the current campaign with a new FC Porto contract running until 2031. The agreement was confirmed on Thursday by the Dragons, who have significantly bolstered their negotiating position in the process.

With his release clause climbing from €80m to €100 million, the Brazilian winger becomes the third player in Francesco Farioli's squad protected by a nine-figure buyout clause, joining Samu and Borja Sainz, whose clauses are also set at €100m.

The move safeguards the interests of FC Porto, who own 80% of William's economic rights—with the remaining 20% retained by São Paulo—ahead of anticipated transfer interest in the 20-year-old attacker in upcoming windows.

"We are delighted with William's progress, which is why we wanted to reinforce his contract. He has attracted interest from many clubs and we are well aware of that, but his commitment to FC Porto has been absolute," said André Villas-Boas to club media, following a summer in which the Brazilian winger was linked with several sides. Liverpool, A BOLA has learned, continue to rate the Porto player highly on their list of potential targets.

During the summer, the Reds saw Mo Salah depart at the end of his contract and brought in Bradley Barcola and Víctor Muñoz to bolster their wide options. However, neither is a natural right winger, unlike William Gomes, keeping the FC Porto talent firmly on the radar at Anfield. The two clubs are also set to cross paths this December in the Champions League.

For now, however, the number 7 remains fully focused on Porto's silverware ambitions, as underlined by his long-term extension. William has already notched two goals and two assists in nine appearances for the Dragons this season.
