The Portland Trail Blazers' title chances took a huge blow on Thursday as Wesley Matthews was ruled out for the rest of the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
The guard suffered the injury during the Trail Blazers' comfortable 94-75 victory over the Dallas Mavericks at the Moda Center.
Matthews collapsed while dribbling during the third quarter and was visibly distressed after the non-contact incident.
He was seen in a wheelchair after the game, and the Trail Blazers' worst fears were confirmed soon after.
"MRI confirms Portland G Wesley Matthews sustained a ruptured left Achilles' tendon," the NBA team tweeted.
"He is out for the season."
Matthews has averaged 16.1 points and 3.7 rebounds this season, and his absence is sure to be felt by the Western Conference's third-placed team.
