Vinícius scores before seeing red as VAR catches moment of madness

Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior was sent off on Saturday during their La Liga Matchday 8 fixture against Villarreal. Following a VAR review, the referee ruled that the Brazilian had pulled an opponent's hair in the buildup to a disallowed goal.

Vinícius came off the bench at the Santiago Bernabéu and looked to have doubled Real's lead to 2-0 after Bellingham's incisive run and cutback. However, as the Brazilian celebrated in front of the supporters, a VAR review revealed he had pulled Nathan-Dylan Saliba's hair in the buildup to the move.

The referee chalked off the goal and showed the Brazilian a straight red card, reducing Real Madrid to ten men. A bewildered Vinícius protested the decision vigorously with the match official.

Vinícius will definitely sit out the upcoming clash against Sevilla, while his availability for El Clásico against Barcelona is also in serious jeopardy. The length of his suspension will be determined by the disciplinary committee.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Real Madrid held on to their 1-0 lead to secure all three points.
