Just weeks after trying to force a move to Tottenham, Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama is set to sign a new five-year-old contract.

The midfielder wanted to join his former coach Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs and went on a strike while trying to force a move.

Ronald Koeman however insisted that he needed the midfielder at the St Mary's.

The midfielder was forced to remain at the club and after a series of good performance, the 24-year-old Victor Wanyama has put his failed transfer move behind him.

Wanyama says he now only cares about Southampton as Saints chiefs are hoping to wrap up a new contract.

"I just don't want to remember that situation,” he said of the failed transfer move.

"I'm happy to go in the pitch and forget what happened, so I'm really looking forward to putting good performances for Southampton.

"I've forgotten what happened. I'm now progressing on my club and it's been good, so I'm looking forward to putting in good performances."
