Fresh off his lights-to-flag Sprint victory earlier in the day, Max Verstappen proved unbeatable once again by claiming pole position in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver secured top spot under the Marina Bay lights with a blistering 1:31.373 lap on his opening run in Q3. Although the four-time world champion was unable to improve on his second attempt, his initial benchmark proved more than enough.
Verstappen pipped Charles Leclerc to pole by a mere 0.054 seconds, with the Monegasque joining him on the front row, while Lewis Hamilton settled for third. A costly mistake at the final chicane on Hamilton's final flying lap ended his hopes of securing a maiden Grand Prix pole with Ferrari.
Championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli lines up alongside Hamilton on the second row, followed by McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri on row three. George Russell originally set the sixth-fastest time, but a grid penalty for an extra power unit will see him start from the back of the grid.
Russell's penalty promotes Piastri to sixth, with Pierre Gasly and Liam Lawson taking up the fourth row. Arvid Lindblad rounded out the top ten shootout and will start from ninth for Racing Bulls.
Nico Hulkenberg narrowly missed out on Q3, finishing 0.182 seconds adrift of Gasly in 11th. Joining the Audi driver on the sidelines at the end of the second segment were Oliver Bearman, Esteban Ocon, Carlos Sainz, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Franco Colapinto.
Fernando Alonso suffered a shock Q1 exit after a late mistake on his final hot lap left him 0.054 seconds behind his protégé Bortoleto. Also eliminated in the opening 18-minute session were Alex Albon, Lance Stroll, Sergio Perez, Valtteri Bottas, and Isack Hadjar.
Hadjar failed to set a time due to persistent technical problems on his Red Bull. After retiring from the Sprint earlier in the day, his team swapped in a previously used power unit, but reliability woes struck again. Red Bull could opt to fit new components before Sunday's race, which would cement his place alongside Russell at the rear.
