Actress sentenced to 26 years in prison for 'blasphemy'

30-year-old Bollywood star Veena Malik for taking part in a 'blasphemous' TV programme which sparked a wave of controversy in Pakistani when it aired in May.

The actress was accused of appearing in a mock marriage scene based on the marriage of the Prophet Mohamed’s daughter on a daytime show broadcast by Geo TV.

The Judge also sentenced her husband Bashir, along with TV station and TV host for 26 years each.

Speaking on the imprisonment, Malik expresses her shock;

“26 years! Come on. 26 years is a lifetime... But I have faith in higher courts in Pakistan,” Malik said in a recent interview according to Gulf News.
