Micro-blogging site considering increasing number of characters in a tweet from 140 to 280
Twitter is looking at the possibility of increasing the number of its tweet characters from the 140 to a doubled amount of 280.
The company in its research findings discovered that users who tweet in English were the ones getting frustrated at the limited character count.
This is not the case with Korean, Japanese and Chinese tweets whose language can convey as much as double the amount of information in one character unlike English, Portuguese, Spanish and French languages.

“ We want every person around the world to easily express themselves on Twitter, so we're doing something new: we're going to try out a longer limit, 280 characters, in languages impacted by cramming (which is all except Japanese, Chinese, and Korean),” a Twitter blog post wrote.
The feature is currently being tested with a small group to get feedback even though the company feels confident about its findings and the positive impact impact it would have on the users.
