They are saying they aren’t in direct competition with the current operators offering similar services, rather they are here to offer added services which other pay-TV providers aren’t offering, and doing so at affordable prices.

Pulse spoke to a customer service rep to get some more clarity on the offerings TSTV is set to give Nigerians.

Here are five items we’ve gathered from our conversation with the rep and external findings about the ‘’new guys on the block’’.

Stakeholders

A 56 year-old Zimbabwean businessman and philanthropist, Strive Masiyiwa, who owns Econet Wireless and Kwese TV - another satellite TV operating in some select African countries such as Ghana, Zambia and Zimbabwe- is reported to have a stake in the Nigeria owned TSTV, which partners with ABS satellite operators to bring premium content to Nigerians.

On live streaming

TSTV will be offering customers varying data to be used at his or her discretion via the Wifi function on the decoder while the subscription enables access to TSTV's  content. That data can be used for streaming live games and video calling.

EPL, UCL and La Liga matches are to be aired

Arguably the game-changer. TSTV have advertised they would  be launching La Liga, EPL, UEFA champions league and more footballing action on the Bein Sports channel which can be live streamed.  It would certainly be interesting to see how this turns out. So don't get too excited yet.

The question of broadcast content rights

-Industry insiders are saying TSTV might have been  able to air the EPL matches among others because they have been able to  bypass geo-blocking which is a method that companies and websites use to make sure that only people in a specific geographic location are able to access a certain website or service.

So apparently Bein Sports which would be airing these matches and originally comes from Qatar have allowed TSTV to access their service which should perhaps ordinarily not be permitted as DSTV are reported to own such rights to air the EPL.

The Payment model

How this is looking like it will work is each user gets different options of subscription plans with different validity periods but everyone gets to watch the same number of channels based on subscription periods as follows:
